Hawaiians like eating in the open air and most restaurants offer a choice of
indoor or covered open-air dining facilities. Many hotels have restaurants overlooking
the beach, where you can sip a cocktail while watching the sun sets over the ocean. Haute
Cuisine There's no shortage of top restaurants with most of the renowned
names situated in the major hotels. Hoku's at the Kahala Mandarin and the
Hau Tree Lanai at the New Otani Hotel are of particular note for Pacific
Rim seafood whilst La Mer at the Halekalani Hotel serves award winning neo-classic
French dishes. International Cuisine You can get almost anything
from Italian to Indian in Waikiki, but you'll find a very wide choice of Japanese
restaurants, since Waikiki is very popular with Japanese tourists. Casual
Dining There are plenty of places to dine casual, but one of the most
popular is Duke's Canoe Club and Bar at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach.
This really is a lively meeting place and features nightly entertainment. Dining
on a Budget Practically every fast food chain has an outlet in Waikiki,
from MacDonalds to Pizza Hut, but there are plenty of more individual budget restaurants
along Kuhio Avenue to try. Moose McGilliguddy's on Lewes Street for burgers and
chicken, or TGI Fridays on Kalakaua for steaks, plus a whole range of buffet style
restaurants. Nightlife Most hotels and bars provide musical entertainment
every evening and the larger hotels also have nightclubs. There are also numerous
nightclubs and discos around the main thorughfares of Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues. |
